What's the difference between PE and PVC tarps?

The main difference between PE (polyethylene) and PVC (polyvinyl chloride) tarps comes down to durability, weight, and intended use.

PE tarps are lightweight, flexible, and budget-friendly — great for occasional or short-term use. They’re water-resistant and easy to handle, making them ideal for covering garden equipment, temporary shelters, or seasonal storage.

PVC tarps are heavier, more robust, and fully waterproof. They’re designed for long-term or professional use, like protecting machinery, vehicles, or use in industrial settings. PVC tarps are also UV-resistant, tear-resistant, and can handle tough weather conditions. They’re often referred to as “truck tarps” due to their heavy-duty nature.

Quick tip: If you need a tarp for regular or all-weather use, PVC is your go-to. For lighter protection or occasional cover, PE works well.

What are the wind, rain, and snow ratings for your tents?

Accepted Answer

Currently, official wind, rain, or snow load ratings are not available for our tents and shelters. While many of our models are built to withstand everyday weather, we recommend dismantling your tent during storms, heavy snowfall, or extreme conditions. Safety guidance can also be found in the instruction manual included with your purchase.

What is the difference between waterproof and water-resistant?

A waterproof tent or cover is designed to prevent any water from penetrating — even in heavy rain. This means all seams are sealed or welded, and the material itself blocks moisture completely. Water-resistant materials, on the other hand, can handle light rain or splashes but may let water through over time or during heavy downpours.

What does tensile strength mean?

Tensile strength measures how much force a material can handle when pulled before it breaks. We test the strength of our PE, PVC, and polyester tarps following the DIN EN ISO 13934-1 standard — an internationally recognized benchmark for fabric performance.

Each material is tested by Hansecontrol, an independent lab, using a specialized stretch test. This shows exactly how durable the tarp is under stress, and the result (measured in Newtons) gives you a clear way to compare quality across different products.

Higher tensile strength = stronger, longer-lasting tarps — ideal for demanding weather and regular use.

Can you send me a sample piece of tarpaulin?

We're happy to send you samples of PE or PVC material. For pop up canopies, we can also provide color samples. Simply write an e-mail to service@alltents.com and state the article number of the tent you're interested in. Please also state your delivery address, e-mail address and telephone number. Please have the article number of the tent you're interested in to hand. The article number can be found on the article page under the product name.

Do you provide printing onto canopy tarps?

We don't provide canopy printing ourselves. You can order this from a specialized printer once you have received the product.

Are carry bags included with party or storage tents?

Some of our party tents and storage tents include carry bags, especially in smaller or more mobile models. Please check the product detail page (PDP) for exact specifications, or reach out to our support team if you're unsure.

What is a gable panel?

A gable panel is the triangular-shaped wall that sits at the front and back of a peaked-roof tent or shelter — just under the sloped roof sections. It closes off the ends of the tent, offering more weather protection and stability. This term is commonly used in architectural design, and in our products, gable panels are key for sealing and securing the structure.

Why are mold stains developing on my tent tarpaulin?

The development of mold stains varies case by case. However, the common conditions for the formation of mold are usually cited as follows:

High ambient humidity or indoor humidity (at least 55% relative humidity, usually well above 65%)
Low air circulation (almost always present when mold stains occur)

You can prevent mold stains by:

Airing out your tent regularly
Regularly removing any moisture (e.g., condensation)

Why does condensation build up in my tent?

Unfortunately, it's not possible to completely avoid the build up of condensation in tents. Condensation is caused by a number of factors, including moisture released from the ground, from people, and from the air itself. As air cools, it holds less water, causing droplets to form on the tent surface and tent poles.

Can I buy extra roof supports for my party tent?

The roof supports of the PRO Plus and PRO Ultra models are not compatible with the roof frame of a PRO Smart tent.

Can I use cable ties instead of bungees for installing a party tent tarp?

Accepted Answer

We advise you not to use cable ties instead of bungees. Cable ties lack the necessary flex that our bungees offer. The use of cable ties can lead to tearing the tarp and/or the eyelets, which the warranty would not cover.
